Ice Skating

We planned a trip to the ice rink while visiting Ithaca and Oly was PUMPED. I laced her skates up and asked her to sit still on the bench while I tied my own, but she hopped off and started running around the carpeted lobby her first time in ice skates. I can't even do that.

When we got into the rink, the Zamboni was just starting so we waited around for 10 minutes watching the "Big Woud Twuck!".

The evening started out with a lot of this,

Well, honestly, it ended with a lot of that too- but she improved so much! To think that a 2 year old worked hard at something for an hour and visibly improved is pretty amazing.

Then there were these two speedy show offs:

Here's a major problem: her Mama can't take her ice skating. It took me several minutes to get out to the middle of the rink and then just stood there trying not to fall. If she fell, I couldn't even help her up- which was good for her because her only screaming and crying fits were because she didn't want any help! She wanted to "do it Oly's self".

Here's her new favorite thing in the world, getting zoomed:
(That's not her skating by using the traffic cone, she and Papa are at the far end and take a few seconds to come towards us)

Here's a video showing Oly moving around a tiny bit on the ice, unfortunately it's out of frustration because she's trying to tell Papa to zoom her across the ice but he misunderstood and she stuck that bottom lip out in protest.

After a 2 minute minor in the penalty box,

Her Papa Guy was pretty much coming out of his skin with pride to see his Baby Girl on skates.

Here's an unrelated photo from the trip after Olympia stole my hat and sat in Jasper's high chair eating yogurt. What a monkey.

Ahh! Too cute! Did I see Lucy skate gracefully in the background of the second video?
Adorable.

Oh, she is darling in those little skates. So where and when did Tim learn to skate, and how often does he go skating? Did he ever go up in Bellingham? I took 6 weeks of skating lessons when I was in my late 20's. Bet you would never have guessed that.

In the top video that is Lucy in the orange coat skating around like a pro. She honestly helped me so much by teaching me to skate.

Tim was an excellent hockey player growing up in Wenatchee, but he hadn't been on skated for probably 10 years. He took a couple laps to get back into it but he's a great skater.

I'm thinking of taking lessons, or at least going to practice by myself so that I can take her skating more often. Aunt Margie you should come visit and take Oly out on the ice! I'm sure your skating skills would come right back.

I never developed any skating skills. One hour a week for 6 weeks is not really enough. I should have kept it up. I think there was a bus that went up to Bellingham. I would love to be able to teach Oly to skate. I think she has a mind of her own and will be very successful. She just needs to be able to get out on the ice. That was pretty cute -the kids skating with orange cones.
