PHILADELPHIA! 4th of July + the ballgame (kind of)

A good friend of mine (Tim is writing this post), Charles, is on the the board of the The Landmarks: http://www.philalandmarks.org/
He organized a 4th of July celebration at the Powel House (original home to one of Philadelphia's first Mayors.  George and Martha Washington were frequent guests) complete with a band, a barbecue and tours of the historic landmark.  We used the occasion to spend a night in our historic city and have a mini-vacation.  We started out with lunch at an Iron Chef restaurant: Amada.  (We used to go here all of the time before we had children! And before Garces was an Iron Chef!) Oly was pretty interested in reading Noodles From Scratch instead (until the grilled calamari showed up).

Wynn charmed everyone in the restaurant before climbing into my arms.  Hallie took this unflattering photo of me.

Finally we made our way to the Powel House for the party, but someone needed a nap.  95 degree weather is the perfect environment for a four year old to take a nap in your lap!  I'm kidding, it was actually delightful.  The band was good, the beer was cold, and we had a blast.

This guy was loving life!  The handkerchief is for his drool...

His Fourth of July outfit: red white and blue! America!

But when it turns around he looks french.  Oh no!

Doesn't he look look life he is getting away with something?

Oly got to talk one of the principal ballerinas of the Pennsylvania Ballet (who's a good friend of a good friend).  Look at her left foot!

We were inspired so we went to dance in front of the band.

Charles, Oly and me.  You think she is a fan of Charles?

Our little Wynn relaxing in the hotel.

Let's get a close up:

We then went home for the night before attending Oly and Wynn's first baseball game!  Kind of... Here is a photo of the whole family before the game.

Then Oly had "wooder ice" and everything was going well...

...but it was the hottest day of the year, Wynn is teething, it was a night game and by the time the game started we were drenched in sweat, Oly and Wynn were tired and the Braves hit a home run in their first at bat.  Ugh.  It wasn't our night or the Phillie's night.  We lasted 2.5 innings, but hey, we went to our first baseball game with the kids!  Day game next time.  In the fall.  Or the spring.      Day game.
