We were totally prepared for Hurricane Sandy this year. We stocked the house with food that could be cooked in the fireplace, brought up lots of wood from the garage, realized at the last minute that we needed flashlights and batteries (and so had to go to several stores to find any) and set up the air mattress to all sleep together in the living room, with a buffer of several floors to catch any falling trees.

Then when I showed her the cute picture of her actually sleeping, she wanted to recreate it:
The way we spent most of our 3 hurricane days was by building a huge "magical pillow mountain" and jumping on it.
In the end, most of our preparations weren't necessary because we only lost power for about 3 hours and had a few leaks in the tv room ceiling. Still, it was cozy and mellow and much, much better than most other east coasters' experience of Sandy. We're grateful. Even many friends here in Media are still without power so we've been hosting 'cell phone charging parties' of sorts.
