The Gruffalo

Oly's favorite two books at the moment are Jack and the Beanstalk (if you say "Fe, Fi, Fo, Fum" she'll say "I smew da bwud of a engwishman!") and The Gruffalo. Not two stories that are necessarily for the faint of heart. The Gruffalo is a great book about a mouse who tricks various predators into not eating him. Oly certainly doesn't understand the nuanced manipulation that makes the story so great, but loves mice, snakes, foxes, owls, giant monsters and RHYMES so she's into it. She recites it frequently, but is always done by the time we find the camera.

In the translation below, most of what she's reciting is what is happening on the page she is looking at. Some is other lines from other parts of the book.

His eyes are orange, his tongue is black, sharp purple prickles cover his back!
Where are you meeting him?
Here, by these rocks. And his favorite food is roasted fox!
Goodbye little mouse! I'm surprised you don't know. <- from another part of the book
The mouse....What's the mouse doin' Papa Guy?
And his favorite food is Owl...... ice cream <- skipped a page
Silly old owl, doesn't he know? There's no such thing as a gruffalo!
On went the mouse through the deep dark wood.
A snake saw the mouse... and the mouse looked good.
Where are you going to little brown mouse?
Come and have lunch in my underground house (house).
It's very kind of you snake, but NO. I'm going to have lunch with a gruffalo.
A gruffalo mouse? What's a gruffalo?
A gruffalo snake? I'm surprised you don't know!
His eyes are orange, his tongue is black, sharp purple prickles cover his back!
Where are you meeting him?
Here by this lake. And his favorite food is scrambled snake.
Snake said, Goodbye little mouse! <- not quite how it goes in the book
Silly old snake, doesn't he know? There's no such thing as a gruffal.......
OH! But what's this creature with terrible claws? And terrible teeth in his terrible jaws!

This Kid Is Related to Lucy

Addition: Oly just told me that she has a brother named Fennel. Now, what's the relation between Fennel and Lucy's imaginary sister Blueberry from a few years ago?

I've been searching through Amy's blog for identical pictures of Miss Lucephine, because I know they exist, but I have to actually take care of this kid that I blog about so I'm leaving it up to others to find them.

But I mean seriously, do these two girls share genes or WHAT?

A Little Cuteness

The Dynamic Duo: Tommy and Oly watching Timmy grill burgers a few weeks ago:

"I'm just gonna sit in this chair with my guys."

Honk, Alfred, Puppy Dog, Pony Purse and Papa Carebear are covering her up, but she's naked except for a diaper and her 'celebration shoes'.

Almost Spring

Our weekends are pretty great now that it's warming up! We've been to a park at least once a day during the gorgeous weather we've been having. Here's last week at our favorite diner waiting for our food to arrive, she was exhausted with hunger:
(Thanks for the Dinosaur Pillow Silly Grandmom! Oly clearly loves it)

Yesterday we walked to the Tot Lot and Oly found a Big Kid to worship. (I apologize that I didn't get better photos). Her name was Olivia and she was as sweet as pie. She was probably 12 and was there with her toddler cousins but Oly adopted her right off the bat. She hugged her around the knees and then said, "Come on Boy!". We corrected her several times that Olivia was a girl and finally I turned to her and apologized, explaining that little kids only have two or three clues about a persons gender. She smiled and deadpanned, "same with old people. I get it all the time." Gah! She was so fantastic.

She followed every one of Oly's orders happily.

That same evening we went to our friends' The Boyles and watched college basketball with Baby Tessa. It was Oly's turn to be the worshipped Big Kid!

After days of frantic anticipation to see Tessa, she got to her house and completely ignored her.

Oly pretended to bake 3 billion cupcakes while Tessa followed her around. When the girls were exhausted because it was way past their bedtimes, we put on a movie but Tessa still only wanted to watch Olympia:

The Alphabet and The Beluga Whale

My Oly Girl

Jumping in mud puddles with a tiara on.

"Mama! I can jump in puhdooos in da wain and get all deeeewwdy!"

Roof Push Owee

Yesterday I had a consultation to have my wisdom teeth pulled (big time bummer) and Oly went over to our friend Ruth (little girl) and Amelia (Mama) and Gerrett's (Ruthie's Papa Guy) house to play. I was worried she wouldn't be well behaved, and technically I was right because she threw a giant tantrum- hitting, screaming and running away......... when I picked her up to go home! Poor girl has to live at our house with no dog and no siblings and her own parents. What a rough life the kid leads.

Cozy

We have a white cozy (blanket for those who don't know), a pink cozy, a Phillies cozy, and a...

This was completely unprompted and we were lucky enough to get it on camera. Amy, she loves the "cozy" you made for her.

If you can't figure it out, we are all under Oly's tent in the living room.

I want to get in that puddle...

VIDEOS!

This video doesn't make a lot of sense, it's purpose is to only show how adorable it is when she says "Emily Elizabeth".

This one is quite adorable. The statement, "Don't call Emily, just find her" is related to Olys insistence that I come find her in the house when I want her, not to call her name and ask her to come to me.

For the record, those are lentils- not beans. I guess as long as she eats a giant bowl of them for dinner, it doesn't matter what they're called.
