Brought the bangs back!

That's chocolate ice cream while listening to a blues band in downtown Media last night.

Bead Ceremony

Oly's first year of pre-school has come to a close.  She doesn't understand how much she'll miss school this summer- I'm assuming it'll hit her in about two weeks.  Her teachers wrote up a final report, and it's as glowing as the last one.

Here are some highlights:

"Oly has continued to be an absolute delight in the classroom."

"Oly's natural compassion and empathy continue to strike us as remarkable.  She is aware and sensitive and expresses her concern for others with consistent kindness.  For instance, when **** had a tough morning and retreated to his cubby, Oly repeatedly checked in with him to see if he was okay.  Though he was unable to accept her comfort, Oly was not offended but clearly felt for **** in his distress.  At the same time, Oly is capable of asserting herself when necessary.  This is an excellent combination of personal traits that we know will only deepen as Oly matures."

"It has been a pleasure having Oly in our preschool group.  Her sunny disposition, articulate self-expression, and gusto for life are precious gifts."

Her music teacher says: "Oly's unabashed exuberance for everything is completely charming and endearing.  She happily throws herself into every song, dance and game with not a sign of complaint or reluctance.  As if that weren't enough, your little cherub has a beautiful singing voice!  Oly is quite a delightful child and a real pleasure to work with."

I'll keep my snide remarks about what we really think about her singing voice and the complaints and reluctance we experience with her every day and just accept the beautiful words about our child.  At least she's perfectly polite and cooperative with others!

On the last day of school there was bead ceremony, a celebration in which every child gets up in front of the whole school and is presented with a bead that represents their personality.  For the kids who stay through elementary school, at the end they'll have a long colorful necklace.

The phrase that Oly's bead represents is, "a sunbeam, bursting forth with love and care."

In this video she goes and sits back down in her teachers college-age daughter's lap.  She had met her that morning.  She's very cuddly for a 40 pound kid.  She's a lot like Harper that way.

After all of the preschoolers were done receiving their beads, they were free to play on the playground.  This is the schools new dome climber and the kids are VERY serious in their love for it.

And now for an entire summer with Oly home all day........
